NOT FOR PROFIT

This was the first not for profit that I ever visited that was bankrupt. I called the pastor of the church and drove out to see her the next day. She was operating one of these so called mega churches, with membership in the tens of thousands. I had seen the pastor on TV, I was sure.. I think she has a national audience. When I got to the church office she let me in and I knew immediately that she was the famous pastor I had seen and heard all over the media. She was very nice. She said that she agreed to talk because there were lessons to be learned. And this is not news to her congregation. She had made some fundamental errors, and, as she said, had strayed from what the Bible teaches. Most of it she admitted was due to her own ego, which came to putting her own needs and fame before the needs and wants of those she was shepherding. I could tell she was humbled to say this. Anyway, the church is apart from her media ministry, and she had not paid attention to its operations and several assistants had made some serious mistakes. Now the church was almost a half million in debt. The congregation had volunteered to take up a special collection to stave off creditors, and while she agreed, she also said that she would be putting her own money into the church.

Mrs. Smyth, my friend Joy’s mother, has finally agreed to go to talk with an Trust and Estates attorney who can help her revise her will and trust. Joy will go with her mom, since she has been digging into her mom’s financial landscape for about a month now. She does not think it is that bad. Even though Mrs. Smyth has been having issues with debt collectors in the form of letters of intimidating letter and phone calls, Joy is sure she can help her mom with these debt harassment issues. That’s why she talked her into going to an attorney. She was referred to this attorney by a couple people at her job who has been happy with his work on behalf of themselves and their parents. He is going to go over all Mrs. Smyth’s assets and holdings, and fix it up in a revocable trust for her. Joy says she will be the trustee if her mom wants her to. She thinks after all is said and done, Mrs. Smyth will be able to get some equity out of her home to pay off all her debts. Mrs. Smyth is beginning to not feel so alone and adrift since Mr. Smyth passed away.

SPECIAL DIET

Tara couldn’t believe that Cathy had high blood sugar. I wasn’t too surprised. We do have it in the family somewhere. A great aunt or uncle. And that’s what I know of. Cathy wasn’t surprised either. She seemed to take it in stride, but she has promised that she is going to try to beat it and get off meds. I am not too familiar with diabetes, so I am not sure you can work your way off of the insulin if it’s not the type of illness that you get later in life. type 2. Cathy insists that you can. I’ll take her word for it. Meanwhile, Tara and I checked our own levels. We have a medicine cabinet with every home test you can think of. Tara was upset! Her levels were up. I asked her if she had just eaten, and what. She had just had lunch. So that was it. Tara took it later and her levels were normal. She was relieved. So was I. One person at a time with a problem, please. Cathy began a special diet, and it about 10 days I can see she has lost some weight. She said that her doctor is happy with her progress, and that she will be on the insulin for a time.

LEGAL SYSTEM

I want to have a strong focal point for my practice, but I don’t want to flood an already overflowing area of the legal system. You would think that with all of the car accidents in the state of California that there couldn’t be enough auto accident attorneys, but a quick glance through the phone book in this county alone will tell you different. It seems like every practice there is in this section of the country is, or has at least one attorney on staff who is, a specialist in lawsuits involving automobile accidents. I don’t want to be one of those guys you see chasing ambulances away from accident scenes, or roaming the halls of the hospital looking for clients who got rear ended at a stop light. I went through law school and studied hard to pass the bar to help people, not to fight over a fender bender or to try and beat the super store out of money after a slip and fall in aisle seven. The problem is, that there isn’t any money in being a good hearted lawyer that stands up for the people. Law school was expensive, I’m in a situation where I have to start making some money – I might be forced to take on less appealing but more lucrative cases until my loans are paid back, then I’ll focus my practice on something that is important to me.

Gum Disease Education

The need to take care of your dental health fell under the radar for a while, but now you are back in the saddle and ready to do whatever is necessary to prevent gum disease. Your last trip to the dentist was a bit frightening when the dentist went over all of the symptoms and possibilities associated with this common dental problem. There is no reason to put yourself through medications and procedures if there is no need. Fortunately taking care of your oral hygiene and preventing dental disease isn’t all that difficult. You just need a crash course in oral health and the desire to not end up in dentures. See, it really isn’t all that complicated.

Over 80% of adults have problems with gingivitis at some point in their lives. While many people rely on procedures like teeth whitening to keep their smile healthy and youthful looking, there isn’t much more aging than the appearance of infection pockets on the gum line, constant bad breath, and discolored or lost teeth. In other words, you may want to focus on fighting dental disease before you worry about your coffee stains.

One of the biggest obstacles to detecting gum disease early is not knowing what symptoms to watch out for. Many very well meaning dental patients miss the early warning signs and end up with a more severe problem than was necessary. You should be on the lookout for increased sensitivity of the teeth and gums as well as problems with less than fresh breath. Some dental disease patients will report experiencing a metallic taste in their mouths. In other words, any changes to your mouth that don’t go away quickly warrant a trip to the dentist just to be on the safe side.

Doing battle against periodontal disease really isn’t a big deal. You simply need to go back to the basics you learned as a child. Remember to brush at least twice a day and flossing is very important. Those dental visits every six months are incredibly vital as well.

You can prevent gum disease from adversely affecting your dental health. All you need is an all natural dental cleaning product and a little bit of education.

MISTAKEN IDENTITY

The neighbors across the street were really having problems. Jose was hit by a car and was in the hospital for a few weeks. He had to have surgery on his leg and was hurt quite badly. After the surgery he had to go to a rehabilitation center for therapy on his leg. He spent three weeks in rehabilitation and then another few weeks at home recuperating from his accident. The teenager who hit Jose was driving a stolen car and the police were not able to find him. Jose thought his insurance would cover his hospital and rehab expenses but somehow his records were mixed up. The government said his citizenship papers were not in order and he might even be deported. Both he and his wife were frantic. They knew they did everything as their lawyer had told them to do and never had any trouble before. They went to the government office and tried to get this mess cleared up. They found that one number on his social security card was put in wrong in the government computer and they mixed him up with a man with the same name as his. They were so relieved that there was no chance of being deported and that his insurance would pay all their bills and they would not have to file bancarrota.

Despite increasing popularity and availability, most insurance plans do not include natural products or alternative medical procedures on their list of approved expenses. Even though many of the natural products can safely eliminate many of the symptoms for which more expensive prescription drugs are given, most insurance plans deny benefits for them. The mindset appears to be that unless controlled clinical trials have been conducted and positive results have been repeated, under strict testing guidelines, the products, even those for such things as constipation, cannot possibly be good for people and benefits are withheld.

As the cost of quality medical care continues to skyrocket, it would seem that insurance companies would be more willing to accept less expensive alternatives, but the reality is that when the cost of medicine and services increase, they simply raise their premiums or reduce to the benefits paid, maintaining their profit margin. Under the guise of offering coverage for only approved services to benefit the well-being of their subscribers, insurers continue to make their money while individuals are held hostage by escalating medical expenses. In most cases, they will cover the cost of a prescription for menopause, but will not cover natural medications to relieve the same symptoms.

For those who believe in the use of all natural products, the issue is not only the cost of their coverage and the cost of their prescriptions, it is the lack of choice being offered by the insurance companies. Many dictate which doctors patients can see and will try to determine if specific treatments are right for each individual patients. In many instances, failure to receive a referral to a specialist will result in the patient paying the entire bill. Even to receive something as mundane as a sleep aid may require prior permission under some insurance plans.

There are two things working against the pubic in gaining approval by insurance companies to pay for natural health products. Most of the companies negotiate the cost of drugs with the pharmaceutical companies for their policy holders and if they are at odds with the drug companies, the cost of their negotiated prices will increase, cutting into their profit. Additionally, drug companies have a powerful government lobby and if insurance companies attempt to approve payments for natural health products, the government can give them grief about paying for products or services that have not been approved by the general medical community.

Even natural health services such as acupuncture and holistic healing, which have been shown as promising alternatives to many invasive procedures, are shunned by many insurance carriers as they have not been accepted by modern medical practitioners and the use of natural health products could cut into the drug companies’ profits. Their reluctance to cover the cost of natural health care has caused some people to turn their backs on modern medicine all together and pay the lower cost of natural health care on their own, with the money they save by refusing to pay for high cost health insurance.
